Sickness Absence Types in MyView
Changes to recording of sickness absence on MyView
The Sickness Absence recording categories have been updated with a system developed by collaboration of the Health and Safety Executive with the Institute of Occupational Medicine http://www.iom-world.org/sicknessabsence/saclassn.htm. This scheme is designed to allow employers to classify in a standardised way the reasons for sickness absence provided by employees, be they from verbal reports, self-certificates or from a medical practitioner via a medical certificate. Standardisation will better enable external benchmarking with other Higher Education Institutions and organisations.
Classification of Reasons for Absence
In UCL's most recent sickness absence report, 35% of long term absence (over 28 days) has no absence reason recorded. So in this latest scheme the classification of the first level of absence (Sickness Reason) is mandatory. Although the second level (Sickness Category) is also mandatory in MyView, if you have any problems completing this level due to lack of information, the option of ‘not specified’ is available. Recording reasons for absence enables UCL to respond to trends through health and safety measures, health promotion and wellbeing programmes. There are 26 sickness reasons.
