Clinical Academic Salaries
1. Consultant Clinical Academic Pay Scale
The following pay arrangements apply to academic and research staff who are required to be medically qualified to undertake their role.
Those staff who have;
- Been awarded their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
- Successfully been appointed via an NHS Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC) and been awarded Honorary Consultant status by the NHS.
- Signed off an agreed job plan.
will be paid on the Consultant Clinical Academic (CCA) pay scale to be found at:

The following staff who meet the above criteria will be paid on the CCA pay scale
and will be employed on the terms and conditions as set out below.

* To be paid on the Consultant Clinical Academic Pay Scale must in addition to the above criteria have either a PhD or MD in a basic science or clinical/health related subject.
2. Senior Academic GP (SAGP) Pay Scale
The following pay arrangements apply to senior academic and research staff who are required to be medically qualified to undertake their role.
Those staff who have;
- Been awarded their GP status and are undertaking practice commitments
- Have achieved a minimum of Senior Lecturer or equivalent researcher status
- Been awarded an NHS honorary contract
- Signed off an agreed job plan

3. Dental Consultant Clinical Academic Pay Scale
The following pay arrangements apply to senior academic and research staff who are required to be medically qualified to undertake their role.
Those staff who have;
- Been awarded their Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training
- Have achieved a minimum of Senior Lecturer or equivalent researcher status
- Successfully been appointed via an NHS Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC) and been awarded Honorary Consultant status by the NHS.
- Signed off an agreed job plan.

4. Non-consultant Clinical Academic Pay Scale
4.1 Those academics, researchers and clinical teaching fellows appointed on or after 1 May 2008 who are required to be medically qualified to undertake their role but do not fulfill the criteria set out in paragraphs 1, 2 or 3 above and are not undergoing Specialty Registrar training will be paid on the Non-consultant clinical academic pay scale grade CL7, CL8 or CL9 as appropriate.
4.2 Clinical Training Fellows are Specialty Registrars who are appointed on or after 1 May 2008 on run-through Specialty Training programmes. They are paid on the StR pay scale.
A national training number is a requirement for payment on this pay scale.
4.3 Those academics, researchers and clinical teaching fellows appointed prior to 1 May 2008 who are required to be medically qualified to undertake their role but do not fulfill the criteria set out in paragraphs 1, 2 or 3 above will be paid on the following pay scales. No new appointments are made on these pay scales:

5. Clinical Academic Staff on the pre-2003 contract
In addition there are a number of clinical academic staff who held Honorary Consultant appointments prior to the introduction of the Consultant Clinical Academic contract in 2003 and were paid on the attached pay scales (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/ca/clin_acad2.php), but were either ineligible to transfer or declined the offer to transfer to the CCA contract. These staff remain on this pay scale. No new appointments are made to this grade.
