# Minimum appointment rate for Readers

Teaching and research staff are appointed on the Academic scale.

Salaries will normally be paid fortnightly by bank transfer. Where applicable, deductions are made in respect of income tax and pension contributions.

With the exception of professors, after the completion of successful probation, annual incremental progression will take place, until the contribution threshold is reached, (unless an increment is withheld as a result of the outcome of the disciplinary or capability procedures). Incremental progression will take place upon demonstration of meeting the required standards, following annual appraisal. Where an employee has been absent for three months or more, in aggregate, the review and therefore any resultant pay increase may be delayed by the period of absence.

Professorial pay progression within a pay band is linked to appraisal on a annual cycle. Performance will be rated by the Dean of Engineering, following appraisal. Professors whose performance is rated as having exceeded expectations will be considered for a salary increase within band, in September on a annual basis.
