Medical Insurance and the National Medical Holding (NMH) in Astana
This Policy is only applicable to UCL staff seconded to Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan
UCL has medical insurance with InterGlobal, and all members of staff and their dependents will receive an insurance pack, including membership card. This is a Group Plan, and the insurers have accepted that they will automatically meet the costs of all routine consultations and out-patient treatment at the National Medical Holdings (NMH). There are certain limits imposed by the policy (e.g. staff must pay 25% of any dental treatment up to a maximum of £500 p.a., consultations and tests up to a limit of £5,000 p.a.) Where it is necessary for you to have medical emergency or planned in-patient or day-care treatment at NMH, then it is a requirement under the policy that approval is obtained through the international helpline (+69 9 356 2276) quoting your membership number and Policy ID.
The policy provides world-wide insurance cover (except for the USA, other than for US citizens), if you are travelling abroad or beyond Astana in Kazakhstan (where access to NMH facilities is not possible) and medical out-patient treatment is sought, you will need to pay the bill for treatment directly. You should obtain an original itemised invoice and original receipts. You should then complete a medical claim form as provided in the insurance pack. (Please refer to the additional information on the claims process available on the CPS staff intranet). When travelling, and emergency in-patient care is required, you should also obtain approval for treatment through the international helpline. For the avoidance of doubt, the policy will also provide cover for the costs of medical treatment in your country of residence.
The policy covers the cost of out-patient medical consultations, including the costs of prescribed drugs and dressings, subject to an annual limit of £5,000. Costs exceeding this limit will become the responsibility of the individual member of staff. In cases where routine maintenance of a chronic condition is required, then the costs of prescriptions is part of the £50,000 lifetime cover under section 7.2 of the policy.
