Annual Leave

This Policy is only applicable to UCL staff seconded to Nazarbayev University, Astana, Kazakhstan

  • The leave year runs from the date of employment.

  • Teaching staff are entitled to 40 working days annual leave per year (pro rata for part-time staff) in addition to Kazakhstan national holidays and additional non-working days.

  • Non-teaching staff are entitled to 27 working days annual leave, additional to Kazakhstan national holidays and additional non-working days.

  • Leave for teaching staff will be taken at such times as may be arranged in consultation with the Head of the CPS or person deputised by him/her during the university holidays. It is UCL policy that employees take annual leave during the currency of the leave year. It is the duty of the Head of the CPS to ensure that employees, as far as possible, take all annual leave due in the leave year. No payment will be made in lieu of leave not taken except in respect of the year of termination of employment. Leave may be carried forward to the next leave year with the prior agreement of the Head of the CPS.

    Term 2

    New Year - 1-2 January; 2014
    Orthodox Christmas - 7 January, 2014
    Women's Day – 8 - 10 March; 2014
    Nauryz Meiramy- 21 - 23 March, 2014

    Term 3

    Day of National Unity - 1 May, 2014
    Men’s Day - 7 May, 2014
    Victory Day - 9 May, 2014
    Astana Capital Day – 6 - 7 July, 2014
  • There is no entitlement to UCL closure days.
  • The proportion of the holiday period to be granted for service of less than twelve months during a member's first and last holiday years will be as follows:

 

Teaching Staff

Non-teaching Staff

Less than one calendar months employment

3.33 working days pro rata to the days worked in the calendar month

2.25 working days pro rata to the days worked in the calendar month

 

One or more calendar months employment

1/12th of 40 working days for each completed calendar month. (Fractions of half days or more will be treated as one day's holiday but lesser fractions will be disregarded)

    Winter Break – 11 days’ annual leave allocation.
    Spring Break – 10 days’ annual leave allocation
    Term 3 End – 10th July 2014; 19 days’ annual leave allocation
