Induction for Incoming Students

Induction week for the 2014/15 session will be 22-26 September. During
this week you will enrol in person (details will be sent to you from UCL Admissions) and attend the History Department events as listed below as well as familiarising yourself with UCL (hopefully not getting lost too many times
along the way!) in general. Do remember that UCL Union have lots of events for new Postgrads!

Introduction to Doctoral Skills Development and the
Research Student Log
The aim of the Induction is to show how the Doctoral
Skills Development Programme and the Research
Student Log can be used as powerful tools to enhance the
quality of students' research work from the beginning of their degrees to
helping them progress their project and also develop transferable skills as
The Induction provides an outline of the policy on transferable skills training for doctoral students and the national Researcher Development Framework that informs our programme. The session demonstrates how the web-based Research Student Log and the Skills System function and work together, and how students may record their academic progress and the skills activities in which they have participated during their degree. The Induction sessions in 2014/15 are:
· Friday 17 Oct 2014, 2:00–4:30pm
· Friday 21 November 2014, 2:00–4:30pm
· Tuesday 20 January 2015, 2:00–4:30pm

Get started at the Institute of Historical Research and Senate House library
If you can, complete the online pre-registration form for the Senate House Library (http://www.senatehouselibrary.ac.uk/membership/online-pre-registration/online-pre-registration/) and complete the IHR registration form (http://www.history.ac.uk/about/membership). Take your completed IHR registration form along with you to the Senate House/IHR tour (on the induction schedule).
