My general interest is in the Greek world after Alexander, and in particular the history of Asia Minor. I am working on a book on Neoi, young men, in the Greek world, as an institutional, political and cultural phenomenon, in which, among other things, I challenge structural models of youth and adulthood such as that proposed by P. Vidal Naquet in his famous series of articles on the Black Hunter. My longer term project is a new edition of the inscriptions of the city and territory of Stratonikeia in Karia (western Asia Minor), with a companion volume on the history of the city and the development and transformation of local cults during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. In 2006, I organized, jointly with J.-M. Carbon, the first international conference on Hellenistic Karia, whose proceedings have just been published (2010).

Areas of Research Supervision: Hellenistic history, with special interest in social, cultural and religious history; Asia minor; Greek epigraphy.

Theses Currently Supervised:

—A diachronic study of the religious structures in the region of the Hyrcanian Plain and Hermos Valley

—Karia and Crete: a study in cultural interaction
