Lecturer in US History
16 March 2012
We are pleased to announce the appointment of our new Lecturer in US History, Dr David Sim.
David completed his DPhil, on the Irish Question and US Diplomacy between 1840 and 1890, at Corpus Christi College, Oxford, in May 2011. This was a study of the sometimes collusive and sometimes antagonistic relationship between Irish nationalists and the American state in the Civil War era. He is currently reworking the manuscript for publication. David's next project will be a study of William Henry Seward's time as Secretary of State during the 1860s, with an emphasis on investigating his historical reputation as an ideologue of American imperialism. Since completing his doctorate he has worked as a Departmental Lecturer at Oxford, where he taught both nineteenth- and twentieth-century US history.
