Rebecca Jennings discusses LGBT history on the BBC

UCL History teaching fellow Rebecca Jennings has appeared on BBC Radio on several occasions over the past fortnight as part of the programming with which the corporation is marking the anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which partially decriminalised homosexuality. Both of the two-part documentaries on which Rebecca features can still be heard through the BBC iPlayer service over the next few weeks.

'Revisiting 1960s British Cinema-going' takes Wakefield back to the 60s

Students from UCL Drama Society joined Professor Melvyn Stokes and Dr Patrick Glen at Wakefield's Theatre Royal on July 19 to host an immersive showing of Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush, transforming the theatre into a cinema from 1967, the year of the film's release. With students playing roles including the cinema manager, usherettes, and several rowdy audience members, the local public was able to experience what it was like to attend the British cinema in the 1960s. One of the students who participated in the Wakefield event, Matthew Turbett, wrote an account of his experience which can be found on the UCL History blog.
