UKRI Innovation/Rutherford Fellowships: Non-Clinical or Clinical Fellow

UCL is recruiting talented scientists for three prestigious UKRI Innovation/Rutherford Fellowships. These awards are designed to create future international leaders in research working as part of a new national institute: Health Data Research UK.

The awards will cover the recipients’ salaries for three years and cover running costs allowing recipients to establish their careers as independent scientists in one of UCL’s world class research units in health data research.

Successful applicants will be supported through a range of training and educational opportunities and be expected to pursue an exciting and challenging programme of research in collaboration with one or more UCL academics.

Key Requirements

UCL’s world-leading research, driven by cutting-edge data science, is focused on the most pressing health research challenges. These fellowships are intended to develop the people and methods needed to accelerate the pace and scale of health and biomedical data science, to deliver a step change in UK capabilities. Fellows’ research will fall into one of the priority areas outlined below.

  • Actionable analytics: Unlocking the longitudinal clinical phenome
  • Precision medicine: Connecting omic data to the clinical phenome
  • Clinical trials: Unlocking the potential of the clinical phenome
  • Public health: Connecting the exposome to the clinical phenome

Candidates should have completed a PhD and have a clear understanding of how the fellowship will help them to achieve their goals. We would especially welcome applicants with experience delivering collaborative science projects across sectors (academic, clinical, industrial) and segments of the translational cycle (discovery biology, genomics, clinical trials). Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals appropriate to their previous experience.

Successful applicants will be expected to take up their fellowships by 15 February 2018 at the latest.

Further Details

Candidates will be appointed as either Non-Clinical Research Fellow, Clinical Research Fellow or Clinical Training Fellow. In exceptional circumstances and commensurate with the candidates' experience, Non-Clinical Senior Research Fellow or Senior Clinical Research Fellow.

2) Research plan including the chosen priority area, objectives, project summary & technical summary (up to 2 pages)

3) Letter of support from proposed supervisor(s)

4) Optional additional support letters (from academia, NHS, or industry)

Shortlisted candidates will be assessed at interview on their application, the full research and training proposal and associated costings. Interviews will be held at UCL campus in London on Friday 12 January 2018 and Tuesday 18 January 2018.
