Jane Wardle read Physiology and Psychology at Oxford, followed by an MPhil and a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry. After being a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, she became Professor in Clinical Psychology and Director of the Health Behaviour Unit. This research unit, funded by Cancer Research UK, moved to UCL in 1996.

Research Interests:
Professor Wardle's research covers two broad areas of health psychology: i) early detection of cancer and ii) obesity and food choice, with funding from CR-UK programme grants and project grant support from BBSRC, MRC and BHF. The early detection work includes studies of public understanding of cancer, the impact of human papillomavirus testing, and promoting uptake of colorectal cancer screening.
