ADAMTS13 Assays

CLOSURES AND BANK HOLIDAYS

Bank Holidays
CLOSED - Monday 27 May 2013
CLOSED - Monday 26 August 2013

A variety of different ADAMTS13 assays are available within the HRU, including: activity assays utilising collagen binding, Fret-VWF73 or chromogenic VWF73 peptide substrate; IgG anti-ADAMTS13 antibody assays, antigen assays; and genetic analysis. Sample collection (Word Document ), handling and shipping (Word Document) guidance as well as the ADAMTS13 assay request form (Word Document) may be downloaded from here.

As you may know, for the last three and a half years, we have been providing a free ADAMTS13 assay service for NHS patients in the UK who have been entered in the UK TTP Registry. This has led, in our opinion, to a major advance in the diagnosis of acute TTP and other related TMAs and hopefully led to an increase in appropriate treatment being carried out for all these patients. Unfortunately, our MRC funding has now expired and we have to pay for the reagents, consumables, equipment, facilities and scientific staff who perform the assays.

From 1st January 2013, we are going to charge £100 for ADAMTS13 activity assays on samples from NHS patients. An additional £50 will be charged for IgG anti-ADAMTS13 assays if these are felt to be appropriate (based on the results of the activity assay and any clinical information provided). A similar pricing structure will exist for patients from renal units with a suspected diagnosis of aHUS. For private patients and those living outside the UK, we will charge £300 per sample (this price will include an ADAMTS13 activity assays and IgG anti-ADAMTS13 assays as appropriate). The Institution requesting the assay must meet all shipping costs. Invoices will be issued by UCL Finance Division, who will ensure that prompt payment is met.
