Green Impact Award April 24th 2013
The NUS Green Impact programme has been in progress at UCL for the second year running. The programme encourages teams to undertake a number of actions to reduce their environmental impacts - thereby contributing to UCL's overall environmental sustainability programme. In 2011/12, 19 UCL teams signed up and completed actions as part of Green Impact. In 2012/13, 29 teams have got involved in the programme and undertaken actions ranging from the purchase of sustainable food to the use of UCL's waste reuse scheme, WarpIt. Collecting of bottles from the local bars over a two year period to line a well & also an "aljibe", which is an arabic cistern common in the Mediterranean.
We also collected Tyres to rebuild a "bancal" or terrace, another innovation in Spain developed by the Moors to maximise the use of fertile land by facilitating irrigation.
The third image is of my car, which I turfed to mark the launch of the mothers Twitter group at my daughters school; @_greenbelt; the idea being to question the girls (who are all driven to school in Landrovers) about their use of the country side, is it just there to drive past?
