Sodexo and UCL awarded Silver Food for Life Catering Mark

11 August 2015

Food for Life Silver

Marking a commitment to providing healthy and sustainable food, Sodexo has achieved the Silver Food for Life Catering Mark at UCL. The university's catering partner since 2014, Sodexo serves over 26,000 students across UCL's Bloomsbury campus.

The Food for Life accreditation is awarded to food providers by the Soil Association as an independent endorsement of the quality, provenance and sustainability of the food they provide. It assesses criteria such as use of fresh ingredients, complying with national nutrition standards and meeting UK standards for animal welfare.

We’re delighted to see Sodexo achieving the Silver Catering Mark and gaining recognition for serving great fresh meals made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients

The Catering Mark is open to all food providers. The Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers recognise caterers who serve more locally produced, healthy and organic food. Caterers with the Silver Catering Mark use at least 5% organic ingredients as well as a selection of UK or local produce, and offer healthier menus.

Commenting on their achievement, Simon Knight, contract director at Sodexo said: “Consumers are increasingly interested in the provenance of their food. The catering mark recognises our commitment to serving fresh and healthy meals made with local and organic ingredients. We hope our customers will enjoy their meals all the more knowing that we are doing our best to source from a sustainable food system – helping to reduce food miles and our environmental footprint.”

Rob Sexton, Chief Executive of Soil Association Certification, said; “We’re delighted to see Sodexo achieving the Silver Catering Mark and gaining recognition for serving great fresh meals made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients. Serving menus to Silver Catering Mark Standards supports local businesses and reassures customers that all meals are free from GM ingredients.”
