5 July 2012

Professor Michael Worton, UCL Vice-Provost (International),
gave the opening speech to diplomats from over 100 countries and
representatives from 40 UK
universities, colleges and schools at the Second Annual Embassy
Education Seminar.
The event, which discussed topics affecting education, was hosted and sponsored by UCL. Delegates heard presentations from education experts including Nicola Dandridge, Chief Executive of Universities UK, Dr John Law, Higher Education Adviser at the British Council, and Matthew Burgess, General Secretary at the Independent Schools Council.
Briefings were also given by Rebecca Collings, Deputy Director (Temporary Migration) at the UK Border Agency, as well as Dominic Scott, Chief Executive of the UK Council for International Student Affairs.
The day ended with a networking wine reception and tour of UCL’s Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology.
“It is a real pleasure for UCL to host and sponsor an event that brings together so many leading figures in the diplomatic and education communities. Internationalisation is high on the global education agenda and events like these help to forge invaluable new relationships and partnerships,” commented Professor Worton.
