UCL and the Institute of Education (IOE) have today confirmed that they will be merging with effect from 2 December. The merger will create a new institution with over 35,000 students, confirming UCL as the biggest higher education institution in London, and the largest postgraduate institution in the UK, with 19,000 postgraduate students. UCL has almost 500 Middle Eastern students studying at its London campus. UCL has many partnerships and collaborations with institutions and organisations in the region.
UCL, in partnership with the Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums Authority, opened UCL Qatar, a world-class research-led facility, focusing on the cultures and societies of the Middle East, and including the study of Islamic material culture and early technology. UCL is the first British university to open a campus in Qatar and welcomed its first students in August 2012.
