UCL’s main focus in Central Asia has been with Kazakhstan, a relationship which is long-standing and spans over 20 years. Part of this relationship includes a commitment to help educate Kazakhstan’s most talented individuals through the Bolashak programme which sees Kazakh students studying at universities around the world.
UCL was the first university to commit to being a strategic partner of Nazarbayev University (NU) which is pioneering a completely new approach to higher education in Kazakhstan. UCL's Faculty of Engineering Sciences supports the development of NU's School of Engineering in a number of ways. From 2010 to 2015, UCL's Centre for Languages and International Engagement (CLIE) delivered its University Preparatory Certificate at NU’s Centre for Preparatory Studies (CPS).
UCL welcomes over 120 students from the region each year.
