Fair Society, Healthy Lives: A Strategic Review of Health Inequalities in England Post-2010 was published on 11 February 2010. During the process of researching, writing and consulting on the report, and following the high profile launch of the Review, widespread interest from all sectors has inspired us to continue to champion a social determinants approach to reducing health inequalities.

Over the next year we are supporting a number of actions and events exploring the way forward at regional and local level. These include:

  • Olympic Boroughs
  • London Plan
  • Working with the NHS Institute and the Department of Health on Healthy Places, Healthy Lives, a project addressing health inequalities in partnership with around 30 local areas in England.
  • Commissioned to write a Health & Wellness Strategy for the Barts & The London NHS Trust.
  • Local Government European Review

In addition, the World Health Organization European Region has announced that they are commissioning Professor Marmot to conduct a two-year European Review. The purpose of this Review will be to review health inequalities and its social determinants across Europe, with a view to developing policies, building capacity and recommending practical steps to address the social determinants of health.
