medieval and pre-modern literature (on topics ranging from love songs
and Arthurian romance to heroic epic and bawdy short stories.) His
principal research interests are (1) short comic narratives
of the later Middle Ages; (2) laughter, jest and ridicule in courtly
and urban culture; (3) medieval drama; (4) Wolfram von Eschenbach's
Parzival. He is currently working on a bilingual edition of Heinrich Bebel's Facetiae (1508; 1512).
