MSc Courses

Starting September 2018, UCL Geomatics is offering a new MSc Course in Geospatial Sciences, which replaces the current MSc programmes in Surveying, Hydrographic Surveying, Geographic Information Science and Geomatics for Building Information Modelling. Students on the course can choose to specialise in one of the topics listed below:

Building Information Modelling

This pathway will educate students in the geometric and semantic aspects of BIM and the integrated management of geospatial and BIM-related data. This includes principles of surveying, 3D reality capture, a general overview of technologies related to mapping sciences, geo-information science and 3D geometric modelling.

Geographic Information Science and Computing

The specialist GIS and Computing route is designed to educate students in the theoretical, scientific and practical aspects of geographic information science, with a strong focus on the technical and analytical aspects of the discipline. The pathway covers a range of topics from spatial analysis and geocomputation to programming and app development. Theoretical learning is complemented with strong links to industry. Our graduates become GIS professionals rather than simply GIS users.

Hydrographic Surveying

The specialist Hydrographic Surveying route is designed to give students an education in hydrographic surveying in its broadest sense – incorporating applications to offshore, rivers, ports and harbour and coastal environments. It aims to give students a comprehensive understanding not just of vessel-based activities but of the full range of geomatics techniques that can be used in these areas – including acoustic systems, remote sensing, airborne imagery, scanning systems, terrestrial measurements, and more. Key strengths of the programme include the study of GNSS, reference systems and data analysis, and the professional link with the Port of London Authority.
