GEE Lunch-time seminars (for UCL Staff and Students only)

GEE, from January 2011, will reinstate the lunchtime-lecture series every
Friday, from 12:10 -1:00 pm(two talks a week), in the Wolfson House Library.
These are being chiefly coordinated by  Dr Daniel Jeffares.
It's been agreed that all the postdocs will talk, and we will schedule
only 3rd year PhD students. Each will give a 25 minute talk about

Prof Steve Jones has been elected President of the Association for Science Education for 2011 and will launch their document on field work in schools at the House of Commons next week.

GEE's Professor Mark Thomas and Professor David Balding, co-authors of a study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), 6 January, 2011.  See additional print and online coverage here.

Scientists at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry have found the underlying genetic change that caused an eighteenth century patient, known at the time as the ‘Irish giant’, to grow to over 7 and a half feet (231cm) tall. Results of the study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, 6 January 2011, will help identify and treat patients living with gigantism and acromegaly today.   More
