Welcome to UCL Finance and Business Affairs

UCL was founded in 1826 and was the first university in England to admit students of any race, class or religion, and the first to welcome women on equal terms with men. UCL is committed to, and consistently achieves, academic excellence in teaching and research across a huge range of disciplines in the arts and sciences. With students from more than 150 countries outside the UK making up a third of UCL’s student body, it is a global and far-reaching institution, shaping the lives and futures of many across the world.

In September 2010, UCL maintained its remarkable 4th position in the QS World University rankings. UCL also came 5th in the Guardian’s University Guide 2012, in which universities are ranked according to teaching excellence.  UCL is an outstanding community in which to study, teach and research. It is an institution with a noble tradition and a visionary future.

UCL has an annual turnover exceeding £700m. More than £400m has been invested in recent years in state-of-the-art facilities for cutting-edge research and teaching. UCL’s financial year runs from 1 August to 31 July. Like many other UK universities, UCL is facing difficult financial challenges and one of its key objectives is to achieve a sustainable financial position which provides for continued investment. Its academic achievements and global interests are even more remarkable, given the financial stringencies it faces.

Finance and Business Affairs, comprising 140 staff, is one of the central administrative divisions, overseeing the financial management of UCL and providing financial support and advice for its staff and students. Amongst its myriad activities is responsibility for producing the annual Financial Statements.
