Dr Melvyn Stokes
Melvyn Stokes teaches American film history. He has authored D. W. Griffith's 'The Birth of a Nation': A History of 'The Most Controversial Motion Picture of All Time' (Oxford University Press, 2007) and Gilda (BFI Film Classic, 2010). He has also co-edited five books on audiences for American cinema and two themed books, published in France, on Myth and Cinema (2002) and Cinema and History (2008). He has organised four large film conferences at UCL and, since 2008, has served as president of SERCIA, the European film organisation.
