Tim Causer

Dr Tim Causer is a Research Associate at the Bentham Project, in the Faculty of Laws. His main responsibility is the co-ordination of the award-winning crowdsourced transcription project, Transcribe Bentham, which is digitising and making available online the Bentham Papers at UCL and the British Library, for volunteers around the world to explore and transcribe.

He is a historian of convict transportation, and his research has focused upon the notorious Norfolk Island penal settlement (1825-1855). This was done by constructing, for the first time, a database of the 6,458 men detained there in order to examine the reasons why convicts were sent to Norfolk Island, how they resisted authority, and the true extent of the punishment they endured there.
