Chris Church

Chris lives and works in Oxford. He is a co-founder of Mapping for Change(MfC), UCL’s first CIC (Community Interest Company) with Muki Haklay and Louise Francis. Chris is also Director of Community Environment Associates and has been a consultant specialising in local engagement and environmental issues for 23 years.

He is an Associate of leading UK think-tank, the Green Alliance, and of the Community Development Foundation and has worked on many research projects at UCL, UEA, Oxford University ECI, UEL and others. He has also led two pieces for research for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. He helped set up the UK Environmental Justice Network. He has worked extensively with NGOs in Eastern and Central Europe.

His work is currently focusing in part on the development of community energy systems, looking at links to social investment development, the impacts of these programmes, and at how communities become engaged in this work. He is also helping lead the development of a practitioner-led network, Community Energy England. he is also active on citizen science projects and mapping with MfC.
