EUROG014 - Dissertation (Research Pathway)

Value: 90 credits
Assessment: One 18,000 word dissertation

The dissertation is an extended piece of work that reflects students' own research interests. It enables students to formulate their own questions on a particular topic and to pursue independent research. It offers students greater space and time to examine primary sources and texts (including archive material) and to analyse a particular field in much greater depth than is possible in course essays.

The dissertation is designed to develop and test research skills, including the ability to respond to the existing academic literature on the topic and the identification of a relevant problematic.

Furthermore, students are expected to explain their methodologies, demonstrate their ability to select and evaluate evidence, and present a systematic, coherent and original argument.
