Libraries
See below for information on UCL libraries and others in the immediate vicinity which hold specialised resources for the study of Europe and the European Union. For specialised libraries across Europe and online collections, please see the EU Resource Area. Note that the Director of UCL Library Services, Paul Ayris, is also the President of LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries), which has 400 member libraries across Europe.
UCL Library
UCL Library Services is divided across all sites in the UCL campus, many of which are in Bloomsbury. There are 16 different libraries, and these libraries share or plan to share a common catalogue. All users of UCL Library Services have access to all UCL libraries. The largest single collection of materials for European studies is contained in the UCL Main Library, which contains material relating to the Arts and Humanities, History, Economics, Public Policy and Law.
UCL Special Collections
UCL Special Collections contains UCL's holding of rare books, manuscripts and
archives which form UCL's most valuable holdings from a cultural and academic
perspective. It is one of the foremost collections held by any university in the
UK.

![]() Europeana Travel It will digitise over a million resources
including maps, manuscripts, photos, films, books and postcards on the
themes of travel, tourism, trade routes and exploration. UCL's close
involvement with this impressive collaboration includes liaising with
partner libraries across Europe and spearheading the creation of an
aggregation
service to allow partners' digital content to be harvested into
Europeana. In addition, UCL is contributing content to EuropeanaTravel
by digitising highlights from SSEES’ special collections. |
