Post-Yugoslav Film Fest

To commemorate the great Yugoslav actor Bekim Fehmiu, we co-organize with the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies a two-day festival of (post) Yugoslav cinema. Events include premiere screenings and debates with some of the most famous Yugoslav film directors as well as rising film-makers from Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia.

Pilgrimage in a Changing Europe

This workshop and open discussion session will discuss pilgrimage within the context of contemporary cultural, social and economic changes not just in W. Europe but across the European region as a whole and by relating those changes to global contexts, to transnational migration and to cultural interactions both within Europe and between Europe and the wider world.

The Future of Healthcare in Europe

Registration is now open for this international one-day conference convened by the UCL European Institute, UCL Grand Challenges and the Finnish Institute in London. Bringing together expertise from academia, government, public policy institutes, think-tanks and third sector from across Europe, the conference will seek to define the major health challenges that Europe faces and explore the ways in which individual countries and the EU are responding to these.

Ideas for Europe
29 March 2011, with the Belgian Embassy
The European Institute co-organises this evening discussion, which is hosted by the Belgian Ambassador to the UK, Johan Verbeke, as part of his 'Belgian Salon' Series. Introduced by a range of academic speakers from both political science and philosophy, the evening will seek to encourage a lively and thought-provoking debate on the nature and development of the European integration project.

EU Legal Migration Package

8 April 2011
In cooperation with the UCL Labour Rights Institute, the European Institute is co-organising a session in UCL's upcoming Migration Week. The session will discuss two recently proposed EU directives, on Seasonal Workers and on Intra-Corporate Transferees. Confirmed participants include an MEP, a renowned Law Professor, and a representative from a Brussels-based Union.

Human Rights in Europe

We support a one-day conference organised by the UCL Institute of Human Rights and the Centre for Law and Governance in Europe on which courts will be the ultimate guardian of human rights in Europe. An evening panel with German and UK judges, organised with the German Embassy in London, will discuss the topic with a focus on the German and UK cases.

The Danube Region Strategy

Jointly organised with the Embassy of Hungary to the UK, this panel discussion will examine the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, a priority for the current Hungarian presidency of the European Council. The panel comprises policy-makers, EU officials and UCL academics, and aims to discuss the details and challenges of the strategy in the light of wider developments in the region.
