Programme of Safety Inspections

Area Safety Advisors (ASA) conduct a rolling programme of safety inspections by visiting departments and inspecting an area against a pre-determined set of questions (typically 10-15). The topics for inspection and the questions that will be asked are published below at least 1 month prior to the inspections taking place.

We pre-publish the topics and questions to enable departments to: have visibility of the relevance and scope of the inspection; have the opportunity to build them into their own monitoring arrangements prior to the formal inspection and seek further advice and guidance on achieving compliance with the questions.

Aims of the inspection programme are to: assess health and safety performance against pre-determined standards in order to ensure compliance with legislation; recognize achievement and, where necessary, to take remedial measures. This is designed to progressively improve the health and safety standards of UCL.

N.B. These inspections are not intended to replace the regular checks that departments carry out.
