How do I make a request for minor works or maintenance projects?
Are the maintenance contractors that UCL Estates use fully insured?
Yes, all of the maintenance contractors used by UCL Estates are required to have third party public liability insurance.
Does the University carry out a vetting process on the contractors?
Yes, all of the UCL Estates maintenance contractors have undergone a rigorous vetting process to ensure that they are competent contractors, and comply with all health and safety requirements.
What are UCL Estates doing about the impact of building works on the environment?
UCL Estates is working towards accreditation on EcoCampus, a Higher Education Environmental Management System. The aim of the EcoCampus scheme is to assist institutions in moving towards environmental sustainability through good operation and management practices, and a part of this involves looking at how they manage their building works.
How do I know if there are Heath and Safety, Building Regulation, Fire Regulation, Planning or Listed building consent implications for works I am proposing?
All proposed Project Notification Form should be notified to UCL Estates using a Building Works request form and a UCL Estates Building Professional will then give advice on any statutory requirements.
A builder has turned up at my office/building and wants to shut off a service or gain access to an office, laboratory or plant room. Should I let them?
First of all they should be carrying an appropriate ID badge with their name and company name on it. They should also have either a permit to work on which the area they are working is identified, and which has been issued by the Customer Service Centre, or a work ticket.
I've got water pouring through my roof or a broken window. What should I do?
Phone the Customer Services Centre on 30000 and give them your name, telephone number, location and description of what the problem is. They will contact the Engineering and Maintenance Team who will send an operative out to you. Out of hours, before 8.00 am and after 5.30pm, you should contact UCL’s emergency telephone number: on 33333
I need some new furniture for a member of staff who is starting work next month. How do I go about ordering this?
Full details are on the Procurement website. Procurement Services have two approved furniture suppliers listed who can supply all of UCL's furniture.
How can I find out if there are any works proposed for my office or Faculty area in my building?
You should contact your Faculty Liaison officer who should be aware of all proposed works to your building and how they will affect you.
