Information for Contractors and Designers

UCL Estates recognise that our contractors, suppliers and service provides are integral to our success and customer satisfaction. You support us to deliver the day to day operational services to the Estates as well as deliver maintenance and construction works. Here you will find links that will help you undertake your work at UCL in accordance with our standards and requirements.

If you are a contractor or designer working on a UCL Estates project, and the information you need is not here, you should contact your appointed University Project Officer.


›  Induction
All contractor operatives and staff, working on UCL construction related works will be required to attend the UCL site-wide safety induction prior to obtaining their security pass. These occur Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 8:25am in the Chenies Mews Welfare Building induction room. To book on this course, email hannah.martin@ucl.ac.uk. Access to site will not be permitted without a valid security pass. An overview of the induction material can be viewed in the video below:

›  Employer's Requirements
If you are a company tendering for future work at UCL Estates or if you have been successful in your bid to secure a contract with UCL Estates, there is certain information you will need to be familiar with before construction starts. Understanding our employer's requirements helps in the preparation of suitable risk assessment and method statements to manage the risks.



›  Information for Designers
If you are designer for one of UCL Estates' projects, there is specific information you will need to be familiar with before construction starts to ensure UCL site hazards and our requirements are considered during the design process. There are reference documents on the Employer's Requirements page you will also need to be familiar with, but to see pre-construction information which is specific to design, click below.

Fire Plans and Building Information

Check the Fire Safety documents relevant to your building on the UCL Building Fire Safety Documents page. Please contact fire@ucl.ac.uk if you need fire safety documentation.


There are a number of technical notes produced by the UCL Fire Team to provide designers, engineers, consultants and contractors with UCL Employers Requirements.

Existing H&S Information UCL holds H&S files on its central W/Drive, Imprest and in some cases paper copies. The project manager should provide copies to the designers & contractor.

UCL also holds Asbestos Registers for all buildings. Designers & Contractors must be provided with the correct asbestos register for the areas that they are working within.

›  Delivery Management System

The following parties are to use the Delivery Management System (DMS):

•  Capital Project Contractors
•  EM&I Project Contractors
•  Estates Maintenance Contractors
•  All Suppliers

All contractors must attend a Logistics workshop before they start on site so that they understand the DMS. These are held every Thursday from 4-5pm in the Construction Welfare Building at Chenies Mews. Please contact Phil Barnett if you have any questions.
