Languages on the programme
All students specialise in one European language.
The dual BA does not offer the other two possibilities normally existent for the BA ESPS of two major languages or one major language and one minor.
At Sciences Po students will study part of the curriculum in the language of specialisation, with the exception of Italian and German, which are studied ab initio. (Note: if applying to the Nancy campus, B2 German is required.) Social science courses will be offered in French, German and Spanish in the relevant campuses.
The complete list of courses taught at Sciences Po can be found in Sciences Po’s course catalogue: https://asp.zone-secure.net/v2/index.jsp?id=1737/2223/18456&lng=fr
At UCL language departments offer modules in literature, linguistics, history, history of ideas, art, films and social, political or cultural studies. The options offered vary from department to department. Please consult individual departments. (There are links to all departments in the drop-down menu box on the right-hand side of this page.)
The European languages available as major languages on the programme are:
- French
- German
- Italian
- Spanish
An A grade at A level (or equivalent qualification) in the appropriate language is required for students wishing to major in French or Spanish. No previous knowledge is required for the other languages offered as majors, except if applying to the campus at Nancy, in which case B2 German is required.
