This information helps you prepare for Registration Week. which is the first week of UCL's term starting on Monday 28 September 2009: what to do before term starts, where to go when you arrive, what meetings you have in ESPS and in your teaching departments when you get here, and where you will meet other ESPS students. Keep checking this page before the start of term: information will be progressively uploaded. A summary of the week's events is given below.
Before term starts
During Registration Week
After the Welcome meeting at 10:00 on Monday 28 September you will have an appointment with one of the ESPS tutors to discuss and confirm your module choices. The appointments list is currently provisional, so please check it again on the first day of term, when it will also be posted on the Notice Board in the ESPS Common Room (G20, Ground Floor, Foster Court North).
You will attend a module registration session where you will be shown how to register your modules on Portico (see section 5.2 of the Student Handbook). This session will take place on Thursday 1 October.
You will visit the departments of your chosen subjects to familiarise yourself with their locations and to find out where the teaching will take place, and if there is a reading list or other set of instructions to be noted before teaching begins. Click here for a list of departmental registration times. This list will also be displayed on the Notice Board in the ESPS Common Room. Remember also to check your obligations with the departments of your chosen subjects.
You should check once again that your timetable is clash-free, using the UCL Online Timetable. The UCL Online Timetable displays your personal timetable week by week, and lets you find out what is being taught, when, where and by whom across UCL. Use it to confirm whether your chosen modules will fit in your timetable. (More guidance in the ESPS Student Handbook.)
If you have any problems in connection with module registration you should return to Nick or Tessa.
The first few days of term often seem hectic. To help you, and in addition to your personal tutor Dr Kristin M. Bakke, UCL operates the 'Transition at UCL' programme. This is a student-led support network to help new students adjust to university and overcome initial challenges and anxieties in consultation with their peers. As part of this programme, several 'Mentors' - experienced ESPS students - will guide new students through the features of university life and academic study in a series of talks and informal gatherings held throughout the first year.
