AIMS

To develop the participants ability to plan research particularly in relation to:

1. Assessing previous work from the literature and identifying research needs;
2. Planning work including the assessment of risks and costs and time needed.

OUTCOMES

Knowledge of:

• How to assess the current state of knowledge from the literature;
• Safety procedures.

Understanding of:

• The balance of cost/time and outcomes in research;
• The need to base research on the current state of knowledge.

CONTENT

A ‘Research Proposal’ will be presented before the commencement of the MSc research project. That will include: preliminary literature review; project objectives; outline of methods; costing; and, where necessary, a safety assessment. The document will not be less than 6000 words.
