Research Description:
Dr Hamer's research involves analysing epidemiological
data from several large studies, including Whitehall II, the
Health Surveys, and English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, and
also laboratory based experimental work and falls into the
following 5 areas:
1. Psychosocial stress and CVD – understanding behavioural and pathophysiological
processes that underlie the association between psychosocial stress and
CVD; 2. Psychobiology of physical activity – understanding the biological
processes that underlie the mental health benefits of physical activity
and looking at effects of exercise on psychophysiological responses; 3.
Physical activity and cardiovascular health – examining the association
between physical activity, CVD risk markers and various clinical CVD endpoints;
4. Dietary factors and CVD – interested in the effects of dietary
anti-oxidants and flavonoid rich foods on CVD risk markers and diabetes;
5. Biological processes of ageing – interested in how biological
markers of ageing, such as inflammation, are related to mental and physical
function. |
