Research & Teaching Profile

Research Interests: Population ageing, Socioeconomic differences to health, mortality and survival, Gender differences to health and mortality, Seasonality of death
Research Description: Dr. Gjonca uses mostly longitudinal data in her work. She has been working on the ELSA study since its start and has been responsible for the design of different modules such as the Demographics, Marital and Partnership History, and Fertility History. Even before joining UCL to work for ELSA Dr. Gjonca had a strong interest in population ageing and especially in socioedemographic inqequalities in old age mortality and survival. Her work has shown that socieconomic inequalities such as wealth or education play an important role in survival even at the very old ages. Her current work using the ELSA data has demonstrated that socioeconomic inequalities affect both disability and survival at older ages.
