Profile
Thérèse Butler is a French native speaker who gained a master's degree in English linguistics in France before moving to England in 1981 to teach French at Newcastle Polytechnic (now the University of Northumbria) and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1989 she obtained an MSc in Computing Science from Newcastle University. She then worked as a programmer and as a software trainer specialising in spreadsheet and database packages.

Thérèse joined the Whitehall II team of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health in January 2003 to provide IT support to the study team, to maintain and improve the study databases, develop new databases and manage administrative and clinical data.
