UCL' s Global Water Hackathon
Weekend of 19th and 20th November 2011
This event was a resounding success. It was sponsored by UCL Grand Challenges and UCL Environment Institute.
For the wrap-up with projects, pictures, videos, source code links, etc. please click here.
Four major issues were addressed:
- Water embedded in consumer products - Android app;
- Supply-demand planning - app works on UCL's www.HydroPlatform.org resource modelling platform;
- Global water market portal - iPad app;
- Citizen reporting of problems in Tanzania - this winning team produced a website and Android app!
Google was impressed
with the submissions after only 30 hours or work (many participants 'slept' on
site!). IBM is holding a global conference call with the winners this
week. The World Bank will be holding a series of follow-up activities and
is starting a global network with the water hackathon as its backbone.
