Cultures of Sustainability
Co-Director: Jerome Lewis, Department of Anthropology
Are culture and society always opposed to nature? By researching the socio-cultural dimensions of environmental issues this theme will draw together research and forward thinking on how human societies and cultures can better integrate themselves into the environmental cycles we depend upon. By studying other cultures and alternative movements within our own society, by critically engaging with policy initiatives, new trends in industry and commerce, and by sharing best practice, this theme seeks to highlight and disseminate cultures of sustainability. With links inside and outside academia we bring together research on a wide range of subjects that contribute to a better understanding of what sustainable living will mean for humanity in all its diversity. The UCL EI Artist- and Writer-in-Residence are closely associated with this theme.
