Climate Change

Co-Director: Chris Brierley, Department of Geography

Anthropogenic climate change, and the threat it presents to human society, is the great issue of our time. Achieving concerted international action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions is hampered by confusion caused by the inherent uncertainties in long-term projections (not to mention deliberate mis-information). UCL is at the forefront of research into climate change in a variety of disciplines: observing changes in the physical system, understanding their impacts and investigating the action needed to avoid and adapt to them. The Environment Institute is concerned with how uncertainties in that research interacts across studies and disciplines. It has a particular focus on how to communicate them, whilst not obscuring the climate changes certain to come.
