Biodiversity

Co-Director: David Murrell, Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment

Biodiversity is increasingly under threat on a range of fronts including climate change, habitat destruction, over- exploitation, pollution and hunting. This has significant implications for issues as diverse as biogeochemical cycling, health of ecosystems, urban environments and sustainability of subsistence economies. At a more fundamental level, the controls on biodiversity and the apparent abundance of life in some areas remain critical issues to understanding natural eco-systems and the evolution of life.
