Russian Space Mission to UK Results in Agreement on Collaboration
22 February 2011

Further to discussions relating to the encouragement of Space Science research links between the UK and Russia, the ISTC
(International Science and Technology Centre, Moscow), has generously
supported a visit to London by a group of leading Russian space
scientists, resulting in the signing of an important Memorandum of
Understanding.
The purpose of the visit was to foster new research relationships between the UK and Russia, and to provide additional support to committed projects. The British Embassy in Moscow fully supported the visit, and the Deputy Head of the Russian Space Agency, Roscosmos, also forged closer ties with UCL during the visit.
The three-day agenda of the visit included presentations by Russian Scientists on Space Medicine, Satellite Communication Technologies, Optics & Instrument Systems, Monitoring and Natural Disasters, Robotics & Cybernetics and Microgravitation.
The visit surpassed all expectations, resulting in a number of successes. In addition to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, as a result of the trip there is already funding in place to start research projects.
The event came about as a direct result of the partnership which Dr Anna Clark developed with ISTC, and followed on from a number of other partnership activities involving the Gagarin Advocacy Group and UCL's key role in the visit of the Deputy Head of Roscosmos to London in June.
