Dr Timothy Jones

During his time studying for his degree in experimental psychology from Oxford University, Tim undertook a variety of placements, including as a support assistant at a special school, and as a research assistant with Prof. Dorothy Bishop. After graduating, he worked as a teaching assistant in a mainstream primary school, and as a one-to-one mentor in a specialist setting for children on the autistic spectrum. Tim trained on the DECPsy at UCL from 2008-2011, with placements in Croydon and Surrey. Following qualification, he worked for Surrey before moving to the London Borough of Southwark, where he has been senior educational psychologist since 2014.

Tim’s areas of interest for both research and professional practice include critical incident support, nurture groups, pupil voice, mental health interventions, and gifted and talented/more able learners. He is also particularly interested in supporting the development of trainee educational psychologists, and currently has overarching responsibility for the four TEPs placed in Southwark.

Outside of educational psychology practice, Tim is also a tutor at The Learning Institute, which specialises in higher education courses for adults who may not have had a positive experience of their statutory education. He has been a school governor for over ten years, currently serving at both a secondary academy in Surrey, and a primary school in London – being chair of governors at the latter. Tim is also an active trustee of a charity that runs residential holiday camps for children and young people.
