For Junior Year Abroad, Independent, Erasmus+ and Exchange students, the Undergraduate Affiliate Programme in Economics offers an unrivaled opportunity to study in a rigorous and challenging research-led environment.
" "Study at UCL exceeded the expectations I had for my time in London in all areas: academics, student life, the city, and travel"
Affiliate Students take the same classes as UCL undergraduates and can choose to attend for the Fall Term, Spring & Summer Terms or the Full Academic Year.
Suitable applicants will be academically motivated and must be comfortable with quantitative methods of analysis.
Affiliates join classes alongside regular undergraduates in Economics and teaching is delivered through a mixture of lectures, demonstration lectures and tutorial classes. A significant amount of independent study is also expected, up to 40 hours per week.
Aside from those that are included in the Elective Course Portfolio, Level 1 modules in Economics are not available to Affiliate Students. Students who are interested in Level 2 & 3 modules are advised to check the Modules page for more details, including pre-requisites (note that information may be subject to change).
Written coursework can take the form of exercises, problem sets, essays or projects and presentations – the amount required will differ between courses and will be set by the course leader. Coursework may be discussed and reviewed in tutorial classes and graded as a guide to your progress. Submission of coursework and attendance at tutorial classes is a mandatory part of the course.
Final grades are based largely on examination performance and for some modules there is an assessed project or group work component. Modules may include other forms of assessment such as mid-terms, quizzes, and take-home exams. Students attending for the Fall Term will take any final departmental examinations in December during the last week of term. Students attending for the Full Year or the Spring & Summer Terms will take final examinations in April – June.
Exam percentages will be converted to a recommended US equivalent and both this and the UCL percentage mark will appear on the transcript.
UCL Department of Economics admits Affiliates for the Fall, Spring & Summer or the Full Year. To apply please follow the procedure outlined in the Study Abroad Guide.
