MSc Economics Programme Structure

Term 1

Research methods course (2 week intensive course in Mathematics and Statistics.)

Three core courses, each consisting of 4 hours of lectures and a 1 hour small group class per week

Term 2

Research methods course - 1 week course covering:

  • Academic writing skills
  • Empirical and Econometric skills
  • Software workshops (Matlab, Eviews and Stata)

Four optional courses, of which two or three are from List C: Advanced core options and one or two from List A: Applied options.  Most optional courses  consist of a 2 hour lecture and a 1 hour small group class per week.

Term 3

Exams

June – September

Dissertation

Research methods course

  • Software workshops (Matlab, Eviews and Stata)

All core and optional courses are assessed by a final exam in June. 

For the Maths and Stats course students are allowed a first attempt in September.  Although weekly problem sets are marked and feedback is given,  they do not play any part in the final assessment.
