Structure

The MSc degree is awarded on the basis of written examination papers and a short dissertation, with other elements of assessment playing a minor role.

Each student takes eight courses; four core courses in the first term (October-December) and four option courses in the second term (January-March).

Students in both programmes take the Research Methods course. Written papers are taken in late May and early June, and work on the supervised dissertation is completed by the middle of September.

The dissertation (of maximum length 10,000 words) will typically be a piece of supervised research of an acceptable standard, including a brief critical review of the literature in the relevant area.
