We are committed to achieving an environment that maximises the opportunities for all staff, regardless of their gender, age, seniority, expertise or caring responsibilities. Key to this is our success in improving opportunities, work-life balance and the careers of women – as recognised by our Silver Athena SWAN award.

As part of UCL, staff are offered the opportunity to work with some of the greatest intellects in the world, access state-of-the-art facilities and collaborate with colleagues across multiple fields and disciplines.

Personal Fellowship Route

UCL has an excellent track record for assisting aspiring clinicians and scientists to further their career development through the award of personal fellowships. Examples of current and past personal fellowships at the Institute include:

  • Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council: Advanced Training Fellowship
  • European Commission: Marie Curie Individual Fellowships
  • Royal College of Surgeons of England, Faculty of Dental Surgery Fellowship
  • The Royal Society Fellowships
  • Wellcome Trust Clinical Scientist Fellowships

In the majority of cases, staff holding personal fellowships proceed to apply for permanent academic posts. Indeed, several of our current academic staff held a personal fellowship at the Institute.

Interested parties are encouraged to review the funding schemes available for personal fellowships. A selection of schemes is provided below. If you are interested in pursuing one of these routes and you fulfil the criteria set by the funding body, please discuss your proposal with one of the Heads of the Institute's Research departments:
