Introduction

The department of Clinical Research aims to promote the clinically-applicable translational element of the Institute's research, within the following main themes:

Wound healing

• Translational and experimental research in soft and hard tissue regeneration
• Healing processes following non- surgical and surgical procedures in health and in chronic diseases
• Treatment of peri-implant infections
• Tissue engineering of muscles for facial deformities

Inflammation and Infection

• Periodontal and oral medicine
• The role of the oral microorganisms in these disease states
• The influence of genetic susceptibility on both the colonisation of and the response to bacteria
• The systemic effects of oral disease on systemic health (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and cancer)

Outcome-based Oral Health

• Systematic reviews in oral health and implant dentistry
• Innovative methodology in data synthesis and patient-centered outcomes
