Enas Newire

PhD candidate in the Microbial Diseases Department

I am investigating Antimicrobial Resistance, funded by the Schlumberger Foundation – Faculty For the Future Program. The high ranking of UCL in addition to the great reputation of the Eastman Dental Institute, that attracts funding as well as collaborations, made my decision [to research here] very easy, since it is all what a researcher would aim for a successful career.

I like the flexibility, support, and letting your research guide where to go for the next step. Scientific research results are not always guaranteed, surprises happen, but when you are in an academic environment that encourages researchers, guiding your research and getting to the bottom of new findings is always supported.

Of course, many opportunities are provided to us as students including teaching, supervising, funding, collaborating, and presenting our own work in different forms of publications and at conferences. Also, we have been always encouraged to talk about our own work with our peers inside and outside the Eastman. Not only this raises our self-confidence, but also it opens endless chances for new collaborations.
