Professor Kobkan Thongprasom has received many honours in her career, including being appointed to the highest level of Professorship by the Council of Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok – the first occasion that this has been achieved within the University’s Faculty of Dentistry.  Professor Thongprasom reflects upon her career and time at UCL Eastman Dental Institute.

UCL Eastman Dental Institute's Head of Biostatistics, Aviva Petrie, together with Caroline Sabin from UCL Research Department Of Infection And Population Health, has recently published a new workbook aimed at students, researchers, junior doctors and anyone working in in the biomedical and pharmaceutical disciplines who wants to feel more confident in basic medical statistics.

The British Dental Conference & Exhibition this year takes place in London, from Thursday 25th through Saturday 27th April.  Following the success of last year's event, UCL Eastman Dental Institute specialists will again provide a number of practical, hands-on demonstrations which offer verifiable CPD credit.

The UCL Eastman Dental Institute under the supervision of Professor Nikos Donos, is recruiting volunteers for a research study that will evaluate the effect of a locally delivered antibiotic around diseased dental implant(s).

A number UCL Eastman Dental Institute staff, students and collaborators will be speaking at the 2013 General Session of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).  The meeting takes place in Seattle, Washington USA, from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd March.  The Institute will also be involved in the Exhibition that takes place over Thursday and Friday.

Former graduate student Rachel Stephens and Professor Susan Cunningham present an introduction to their paper, which features in the March issue of the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics.

UCL Eastman Dental Institute PhD student Enas Newire was interviewed recently for The Independent.

Ms Newire is studying for a doctorate in antimicrobial strategies and resistance, under the supervision of Dr Adam Roberts.  Dr Roberts' research group, based within the department of Microbial Diseases, focuses on antibiotic resistance and the mobile genetic elements which are often responsible for its transfer between different bacteria. Ms Newire’s project, possible with funding from the Schlumberger Foundation's Faculty for the Future programme, aims to investigate whether common resistance genes in the enteric pathogen Escherichia coli (E. coli) are also found on mobile genetic elements.

An artist with close connections to the Institute has been named Public Engager of the Year (Student) at the UCL Provost's Awards for Public Engagement on Wednesday.

An award has been launched for students of the Institute’s Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry Postgraduate Certificate programme.
